Affiliates Who Miss Diamonds
This started out to be a What’s Up Wednesday article and quickly turned into today’s Feature Friday post. We all know about chasing after the dream of online riches. In turn, often causes us to go after the “shiny object” syndrome.
Many people who start online often don’t finish well because of this problem. And sadly, they could be doing better if they just realized a simple truth. They are those affiliates who miss diamonds in their own backyard!
Acres of Diamonds
I want to share a true story (a.k.a. Acres of Diamonds) that actually took place. The lessons from it can easily be transferred to affiliates who do the same thing online. It’s starts with an African farmer who heard stories about other farmers who had made millions by discovering fields of diamonds.
In fact, these stories excited the farmer so much that he could hardly wait to sell his farm and go searching for diamonds himself. Soon after, he sold his farm and sadly spent the rest of his life wandering the African continent. He was unsuccessful in his search for these sparkling gems that brought so much money on the world market.
Finally after years of searching, becoming despondent and worn out, the farmer gave up by throwing himself into a river and drowned.
But the story doesn’t end here.
In the meantime, the man who bought his farm was out for a walk on the property one day, and happened to be crossing a stream catching his eye on a bright flash of blue from the stream bottom. He bent down and picked up this flashy stone. It was of good size and he decided to take it home to put it on his fireplace mantel like a curious trophy because he admired it.
A few weeks later, a visitor had stopped by noticing the stone on the mantel. He then went up to it, lifted it into his hand, took a close look and nearly fainted! Then he asked the farmer if he knew what it was he had found. The Farmer answered, no, just that he found some rock that he liked. The visitor then told him that he had found possibly one of the largest diamonds ever discovered.
Of course the farmer had a hard time believing it. He further told the man that his stream was full of such stones. Not all are as large as that one on the mantel, but scattered abundantly throughout the stream bottom.
Sad but true, the farm that the first farmer had sold, so he could go out to find a diamond field to be rich, ended up being one of the most productive diamond mines on the entire African continent.
Amazingly, the first farmer had owned, free and clear … literally acres of diamonds without knowing it. But he had turned around and sold them for virtually nothing, so he could look for them elsewhere.
The moral of this story is clear
If the farmer had only taken time to learn what diamonds looked like in their rough state. And he thoroughly explored his property before looking elsewhere, all of his wildest dreams would have come true.
How this story applies to affiliate marketers or anyone seeking to make money online?
The thing about this story is the idea that each of us, right now, is standing in the middle of our own field of diamonds. If we only take the time to gain the wisdom and patience to smartly and effectively explore the market in which we’re now engaged, to explore ourselves, we would most likely find those riches we seek, whether they be financial or other or both.
So before you go in search of another “shiny object”, make sure that the grass on your lawn is not just as green if not even greener. It’s been said that if the other guy’s lawn appears to be greener than ours, it’s quite possible that it’s getting better care. Besides, while you’re looking at other lawns, other people may be looking at yours!
