Separating Fact from Fiction

When it comes to making money online, there’s plenty of hype about it being promoted. You may have heard about online marketers who are making millions of dollars online a year. And that they’re doing it while they sleep. Thanks to their auto-pilot websites which are bringing in tons of money no matter what they’re doing. Or maybe you’ve heard that all the profitable online markets are too saturated, and successes are few and far between. Don’t believe all this hype! In this article, I will cover the most common affiliate marketing myths. And I will help you in separating fact from fiction.

Fiction:

Running an online affiliate marketing business is easy.

Fact:

Running an affiliate business may be easy when compared to starting up a traditional brick & mortar business. You don’t have to buy or lease a location, a home office will do. You don’t have to hire employees, carry inventory, and deliver products or services directly to your customers. The vendor’s who you promote worry about that. Nor if you fail do you have as much to lose. Also running an affiliate business is easier than running an eCommerce website. With an affiliate website or blog, you simply refer visitors to vendors. You let them handle the transactions, delivery, and customer service. Even though it may be true that starting and managing an affiliate business is easier than either a traditional or eCommerce business, it’s not a walk in the park. To successfully run an affiliate business requires that you attract potential customers to your site. And then get them to click through to those vendors’ whom you promote in hope for sales. You then need to do this over and over again.

Fiction:

Affiliate marketing is the best way to get rich quick!

Fact:

Building a successful affiliate business is not something that happens overnight. Even if you are one of the lucky ones who can make sales right out of the gate. You won’t be able to sustain it unless you work at it. By this I mean it takes time to develop a good website with quality content. And then to build a steady flow of visitors to your site on a regular basis. Also it takes time to build credibility to where your recommendations matter.

Fiction:

Why bother, the Affiliate marketing space is too crowded.

Fact:

The potential for affiliate success continues to grow. And that is for a number of online markets. Consider the following:
  • Month after month the population of web users continue to grow with no end in sight.
  • People are making more online purchases than ever before.
  • More places have WiFi than ever before, making it easier to shop online.
  • The Internet IS the largest marketplace in the world. Literally having hundreds of millions of shoppers available all the time.

Final thought…

In fact, the Internet continues to have plenty of opportunity for affiliates. The one really big problem affiliates have is what niche marketplace to get into. If you are struggling to find a profitable market, then you’ll want to see How to Find Hot Affiliate Niches.
